The residential tax credit expired, but solar savings will never go away

We have good news!

While the residential solar tax credit has expired, the commercial tax credit still applies. This means all commercial projects commissioned by December 31, 2027 are eligible for the tax credit.

On top of that, all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations are eligible for an upfront credit worth 30% of the system cost, to be distributed when the project begins.

On top of that, Power Purchase Agreements — the most popular option in residential solar — remain unchanged. The financial institutions that own these systems are still eligible for the 30% federal tax credit, so pricing is identical to what it was last year — and may even be lower when tariffs are removed.

On top of that, interest rates fell in 2025.

On top of that, financial institutions have been creative in their loan offerings.

One company offers a loan with discounted payments for 3 years.

Another offers a loan with an inflation adjuster, meaning payments begin low and increase slightly every years.

Another offers a lease-to-own product.

We are excited to see what other products will arrive in the future.

While it’s always nice to have options, it’s important to discuss which solutions, if any, are ideal for your home or business.
